| + | ### A Very Reasonable Nap |
| + | |
| + | Before heading into the enemy camp, I took a nap. |
| + | |
| + | After everything that's happened so far, I think I'm entitled to one. |
| + | |
| + | I've escaped a fortress, nearly had my soul stolen, grown wings, been drowned *at*, and discovered the hard way that wings run out of energy. |
| + | |
| + | I **died**, for gods' sake. |
| + | |
| + | So yes. A nap. |
| + | |
| + | If anyone objects, they can file a complaint with the person who hired me for twenty dollars. |
| + | |
| + | ### Meet Rock |
| + | |
| + | When I woke up, I discovered I could summon an **Earth Spirit**. |
| + | |
| + | That's three now. |
| + | |
| + | [[Characters/Campanions/Sparks|Sparks]], [[Characters/Campanions/Bluey|Bluey]], and—after giving it some thought—**[[Characters/Campanions/Rock|Rock]]**. |
| + | |
| + | It's an earth spirit. I'm not calling him something ridiculous like *Lord Pebblington the Third*. |
| + | |
| + | Rock. |
| + | |
| + | A perfectly sensible name. |
| + | |
| + | Actually, maybe Rock will be useful for tracking. Earth spirits ought to be good at finding footprints, shouldn't they? They have a close relationship with the ground. |
| + | |
| + | I don't know whether that actually works, but it seems worth asking. |
| + | |
| + | **Current companion roster:** |
| + | - [[Characters/Campanions/Sparks|Sparks]] — Fire Spirit. Still the original. |
| + | - [[Characters/Campanions/Bluey|Bluey]] — Water Spirit. Very useful for getting magic back. |
| + | - [[Characters/Campanions/Rock|Rock]] — Earth Spirit. New arrival. Possible track-finding specialist, pending testing. |
| + | |
| + | At least my collection of elemental companions is going well. That's something. |
| + | |
| + | ### Anders Seems All Right |
| + | |
| + | I'm working with [[Characters/Garlond's Crew/Anders|Anders]] to find [[Characters/Garlond's Crew/Garlond|Garlond]]'s missing people. |
| + | |
| + | So far, I rather like him. |
| + | |
| + | Or, to be more precise, I **really hope Anders isn't a dick**. |
| + | |
| + | He seems all right, which puts him ahead of a worrying number of people I've met in [[Locations/Lands/Ishalgen|Ishalgen]]. |
| + | |
| + | I'm trying not to be paranoid about every single person I encounter. |
| + | |
| + | It's getting difficult. |
| + | |
| + | ### Orders I Can't Read |
| + | |
| + | Inside the camp, I found a document: **[[Azrakar Brigade Command]]**. |
| + | |
| + | Useful discovery. Slight problem. |
| + | |
| + | I couldn't read the damned thing. |
| + | |
| + | Whatever language the [[Balaur]] use, it isn't one I've learned. |
| + | |
| + | Fortunately, Anders could make sense of it. |
| + | |
| + | Turns out it contained orders. People had been sent away to a holding area—a prison compound. |
| + | |
| + | Which means there may still be prisoners alive. |
| + | |
| + | That's good news, in a horrible sort of way. |
| + | |
| + | At least we have somewhere to search instead of wandering around hoping to find somebody. |
| + | |
| + | The next step was to get a key from one of the lizard-looking Balaur guards. |
| + | |
| + | And yes, that meant more fighting. |
| + | |
| + | I'm trying very hard not to think about how much killing I've been doing lately. |
| + | |
| + | I wanted a job. Not a body count. |
| + | |
| + | But if the alternative is leaving people trapped in a prison camp, I don't see a particularly pleasant third option. |
| + | |
| + | I got the key. |
| + | |
| + | ### The Storage Hold |
| + | |
| + | I met Anders again near **[[Azrakar Brigade Storage]]**. |
| + | |
| + | We searched for information on the missing survivors. |
| + | |
| + | And we found someone. |
| + | |
| + | **[[Bjorn]].** |
| + | |
| + | One of Garlond's people. |
| + | |
| + | He looked terrible. |
| + | |
| + | Not the sort of terrible that a health potion and a good night's sleep will necessarily fix. |
| + | |
| + | The sort of terrible that makes you wonder whether somebody is about to die in front of you. |
| + | |
| + | He managed to tell us something about **traitors**. |
| + | |
| + | Traitors. |
| + | |
| + | Of course. |
| + | |
| + | Because why settle for enemy soldiers, magical brainwashing, and a suspicious village when we can have betrayal too? |
| + | |
| + | At this point, I feel that my developing paranoia is entirely justified. |
| + | |
| + | I don't know who he meant. I don't know how much he knew. And I am **not** going to decide somebody is guilty without proof. |
| + | |
| + | But I'm going to remember that word. |
| + | |
| + | Bjorn also managed to get hold of a map of the prison compound. |
| + | |
| + | Even in that condition, he was thinking about the others. |
| + | |
| + | I made a copy of the **[[Azrakar Brigade Prison Compound Map]]**. |
| + | |
| + | I don't know whether Bjorn will survive. I hope he does. |
| + | |
| + | If he doesn't, then that map had better mean something. I'm not letting what he went through be for nothing. |
| + | |
| + | I never even knew the man before today. |
| + | |
| + | **WHY MUST I HAVE MORALS?** |
| + | |
| + | It would be so much easier to stop caring. |
| + | |
| + | Unfortunately, that doesn't seem to be happening. |
| + | |
| + | ### A Distraction and an Entrance |
| + | |
| + | We found the entrance to the **[[Azrakar Brigade Prison Compound]]**. |
| + | |
| + | Anders has a plan. |
| + | |
| + | He's going to make a distraction—enough noise to pull attention away from the entrance—while I slip inside. |
| + | |
| + | Which means I'm about to infiltrate a Balaur prison. |
| + | |
| + | Excellent. |
| + | |
| + | Just excellent. |
| + | |
| + | I hope he knows what he's doing. |
| + | |
| + | To be fair, I hope **I** know what I'm doing. |
| + | |
| + | We've agreed to meet back at **[[Locations/Ishalgen/Aldelle Village|Aldelle Village]]** afterward. |
| + | |
| + | Yes, *that* village. |
| + | |
| + | The one I'm still convinced is hiding something deeply unpleasant. |
| + | |
| + | Apparently, I now have to survive a prison break **and** return to somewhere I don't entirely trust. |
| + | |
| + | One problem at a time, Cadmus. |
| + | |
| + | ### Things Worth Remembering |
| + | |
| + | | Subject | What I Know So Far | |
| + | |---|---| |
| + | | [[Characters/Campanions/Rock|Rock]] | New Earth Spirit. Name chosen. Track-finding abilities remain an idea, not a confirmed power. | |
| + | | [[Characters/Garlond's Crew/Anders|Anders]] | Seems decent so far; can interpret the Balaur orders and is helping with the rescue. | |
| + | | [[Azrakar Brigade Command]] | Orders pointing toward a prison or holding area. | |
| + | | Balaur key | Obtained from a guard to access the next area. | |
| + | | [[Bjorn]] | Gravely injured survivor; mentioned traitors and provided a prison map. His fate is uncertain. | |
| + | | [[Azrakar Brigade Prison Compound Map]] | Copied for reference. | |
| + | | [[Azrakar Brigade Prison Compound]] | Next destination; Anders will cause a distraction. | |
| + | | [[Locations/Ishalgen/Aldelle Village|Aldelle Village]] | Planned meeting point after the operation, despite my suspicions. | |
| + | |
| + | ### Final Thoughts |
| + | |
| + | I started today by taking a nap. |
| + | |
| + | That was nice. |
| + | |
| + | Then I woke up, acquired an earth spirit, read enemy orders I couldn't understand, killed more Balaur than I'd like to think about, met a dying man who warned us about traitors, copied a prison map, and agreed to sneak into an enemy compound while somebody else makes a racket. |
| + | |
| + | So the nap was probably the highlight. |
| + | |
| + | At least we know where the missing people might be. |
| + | |
| + | Anders seems decent. Garlond has people depending on us. Bjorn did what he could to help. |
| + | |
| + | I can't just walk away now. |
| + | |
| + | **Sparks. Bluey. Rock.** |
| + | |
| + | Let's get these people out. |
| + | |
| + | And this time, if there's a choice between a daring aerial escape and a perfectly ordinary staircase, I'm taking the staircase. |
| + | |
| + | --- |
| + | |
| + | *End of Entry 010.* |
| + | |
| + | *Personal note: Rock might be useful for finding tracks. Test this before relying on it.* |
| + | |
| + | *Additional note: Find out who Bjorn meant by “traitors.” Don't accuse people without evidence.* |
| + | |
| + | *Important note: Bjorn's fate is not confirmed. The map may help save the others.* |
| + | |
| + | *Final note: I HAVE THREE ELEMENTAL SPIRITS AND I AM STILL ONLY GETTING TWENTY DOLLARS.* |
| + | |
| + | --- |
| + | |
| + | ## Entry 011 — Survivors, Suspicion, and a Sharp Knife |
| + | |
| + | **Region:** [[Locations/Lands/Ishalgen|Ishalgen]] |
| + | **Locations:** [[Azrakar Brigade Prison Compound]] → [[Locations/Ishalgen/Aldelle Village|Aldelle Village]] |
| + | **Companions:** [[Characters/Campanions/Sparks|Sparks]] (Fire Spirit), [[Characters/Campanions/Bluey|Bluey]] (Water Spirit), [[Characters/Campanions/Rock|Rock]] (Earth Spirit; also called Rocky) |
| + | **People involved:** [[Hergal]], [[Characters/Garlond's Crew/Anders|Anders]], [[Characters/Garlond's Crew/Garlond|Garlond]], [[Characters/Aldell/Pelleir|Pelleir]] |
| + | **Current objective:** Rest for the night and leave this increasingly suspicious place. |
| + | **Original payment:** $20. Still insufficient. |
| + | |
| + | --- |
| + | |
| + | ### We Found Them |
| + | |
| + | Good news. |
| + | |
| + | **ACTUAL GOOD NEWS.** |
| + | |
| + | We found [[Hergal]] and the other members of [[Characters/Garlond's Crew/Garlond|Garlond]]'s crew inside the [[Azrakar Brigade Prison Compound]]. |
| + | |
| + | And we got everyone we found out. |
| + | |
| + | After all the sneaking around, the guards, the strange orders, and worrying about what happened to the missing mercenaries, it is very nice to be able to write that down. |
| + | |
| + | **We got them out.** |
| + | |
| + | I don't know how often an adventure is supposed to end with the people you went looking for actually surviving, but I'll take it. |
| + | |
| + | Also, [[Characters/Garlond's Crew/Anders|Anders]] helped make the whole operation possible. He's continuing to seem like a decent person. |
| + | |
| + | That is a surprisingly valuable quality around here. |
| + | |
| + | ### Oh, So Hergal Thinks It's Suspicious Too |
| + | |
| + | Turns out Hergal has been getting a bad feeling about the villagers. |
| + | |
| + | **THANK YOU.** |
| + | |
| + | FINALLY. |
| + | |
| + | ANOTHER PERSON WHO THINKS THIS PLACE IS WEIRD. |
| + | |
| + | It's not just me! |
| + | |
| + | The village is practically next door to a [[Locations/Ishalgen/Fafnir Fortress|fortress]] belonging to a Dragon Lord's forces, this whole region is supposed to be controlled by the [[Balaur]], and somehow [[Locations/Ishalgen/Aldelle Village|Aldelle Village]] is a cheerful little place offering supplies and shelter to strangers. |
| + | |
| + | And let's not forget the [[Items/Veil Jewel|Veil Jewel]] that tried to take my soul. |
| + | |
| + | I haven't forgotten about that. |
| + | |
| + | I suspect I never will. |
| + | |
| + | Hergal noticed something was wrong even without having my particular experience with the soul-stealing rock. |
| + | |
| + | Which is comforting. |
| + | |
| + | In a deeply uncomfortable way. |
| + | |
| + | ### I Can Land Now! |
| + | |
| + | We used a [[Wind Stream]] on the way back. |
| + | |
| + | And guess what? |
| + | |
| + | **I LANDED PROPERLY.** |
| + | |
| + | No face-first introduction to a rock. |
| + | |
| + | No accidental experiment involving gravity. |
| + | |
| + | No sudden, unwanted conversation with a resurrection stone. |
| + | |
| + | Just flying and landing. |
| + | |
| + | Like a person who actually knows how to use his wings. |
| + | |
| + | I am genuinely proud of myself. |
| + | |
| + | It's a low bar, perhaps, but after dying because I ran out of flight energy, I think I'm allowed to celebrate. |
| + | |
| + | **Current flight record:** Improving. |
| + | |
| + | **Current relationship with the ground:** Cautiously optimistic. |
| + | |
| + | ### Garlond, Please Listen |
| + | |
| + | We met up with everyone again. |
| + | |
| + | And Hergal brought up his concerns about the village. |
| + | |
| + | [[Characters/Garlond's Crew/Garlond|Garlond]] doesn't believe the villagers are being mind-controlled or involved in some sort of trap. |
| + | |
| + | Apparently, he thinks we're jumping to conclusions. |
| + | |
| + | Look, I understand why. |
| + | |
| + | The villagers helped him. They gave us supplies. They provided somewhere to stay. |
| + | |
| + | And if somebody saved my life, I'd be reluctant to believe they were secretly helping my enemies too. |
| + | |
| + | But I WAS THERE WHEN THE JEWEL TRIED TO TAKE MY SOUL. |
| + | |
| + | And I've read documents warning about the jewels, stolen memories, and people who forget who they are. |
| + | |
| + | So forgive me if I'm not reassured by a friendly village chief. |
| + | |
| + | I don't know whether the villagers are willingly involved, mind-controlled themselves, or completely innocent. |
| + | |
| + | That's the problem. |
| + | |
| + | **I DON'T KNOW.** |
| + | |
| + | But I know enough not to lower my guard. |
| + | |
| + | Garlond is a decent man. I'm glad he's found his people. |
| + | |
| + | I just wish he'd take this a little more seriously. |
| + | |
| + | ### A Gift From Pelleir |
| + | |
| + | Back in the village, [[Characters/Aldell/Pelleir|Pelleir]] gave me an **[[Enhance Stone]]**. |
| + | |
| + | Apparently, these things can improve my equipment. |
| + | |
| + | Which is interesting. |
| + | |
| + | Very interesting. |
| + | |
| + | You mean to tell me I can make my gear *better* with magic? |
| + | |
| + | Why did nobody tell me this earlier? |
| + | |
| + | Actually, more importantly... |
| + | |
| + | **Can I use these things on tools?** |
| + | |
| + | Because imagine an enhanced knife. |
| + | |
| + | A really good knife. |
| + | |
| + | One that never needs sharpening. |
| + | |
| + | Do you have any idea how useful that would be? |
| + | |
| + | I could keep the same knife for years without having to worry about the edge going dull. |
| + | |
| + | And if it works on knives, what about other tools? |
| + | |
| + | I'm going to need to investigate this. |
| + | |
| + | Obviously, being able to strengthen armor and weapons is useful. But the possibilities for everyday objects are what interest me. |
| + | |
| + | Of course, I should probably find out what an Enhance Stone can *actually* do before trying to put one on a kitchen knife. |
| + | |
| + | I've already done enough badly planned magical experiments. |
| + | |
| + | And I still don't entirely trust Pelleir. |
| + | |
| + | I'm keeping the stone, though. |
| + | |
| + | It's a useful stone. |
| + | |
| + | **As far as I know, this one doesn't want my soul.** |
| + | |
| + | ### Time for Bed |
| + | |
| + | We're staying in [[Locations/Ishalgen/Aldelle Village|Aldelle Village]] tonight. |
| + | |
| + | I'm going to bed. |
| + | |
| + | Notice I didn't say I'm going to *sleep*. |
| + | |
| + | After everything that has happened, I doubt I'll manage much of that. |
| + | |
| + | Between the fortress, the jewels, the apparent mind control, the missing memories, and the suspiciously convenient village, lying unconscious in a strange building doesn't sound particularly relaxing. |
| + | |
| + | So I've asked [[Characters/Campanions/Sparks|Sparks]] and [[Characters/Campanions/Rock|Rocky]] to stand watch. |
| + | |
| + | Sparks can handle anything that doesn't like fire. |
| + | |
| + | Rocky is made of earth. I figure that's a decent quality in a guard. |
| + | |
| + | Whether this is a good security arrangement remains to be seen. |
| + | |
| + | But at least I trust them. |
| + | |
| + | I still have [[Characters/Campanions/Bluey|Bluey]], too. I'm not forgetting about him just because the other two got night duty. |
| + | |
| + | #### Things Worth Remembering |
| + | |
| + | | Subject | Current information | |
| + | |---|---| |
| + | | [[Hergal]] | Rescued with the other crew members; also distrusts the village | |
| + | | [[Characters/Garlond's Crew/Anders|Anders]] | Helped make the prison rescue possible; still seems all right | |
| + | | [[Characters/Garlond's Crew/Garlond|Garlond]] | Reunited with his crew, but skeptical about the village being a trap | |
| + | | [[Wind Stream]] | I can finally use one **and land** | |
| + | | [[Characters/Aldell/Pelleir|Pelleir]] | Gave me an [[Enhance Stone]]; my doubts about her remain | |
| + | | [[Enhance Stone]] | Can improve eligible gear; whether it can improve ordinary tools is unknown | |
| + | | [[Characters/Campanions/Sparks|Sparks]] | Assigned to watch while I rest | |
| + | | [[Characters/Campanions/Rock|Rock]] | Now also called Rocky; assigned to watch with Sparks | |
| + | | [[Characters/Campanions/Bluey|Bluey]] | Still one of my companions | |
| + | | [[Locations/Ishalgen/Aldelle Village|Aldelle Village]] | Where we're spending the night, despite the worrying evidence | |
| + | |
| + | ### Final Thoughts |
| + | |
| + | Today we rescued people. |
| + | |
| + | That's what matters. |
| + | |
| + | Hergal and the others are out, Garlond has his people back, and I managed to fly without dying. |
| + | |
| + | Three good things. |
| + | |
| + | That's practically a record. |
| + | |
| + | Unfortunately, we're sleeping in a village that I increasingly suspect is some sort of trap, and the man we rescued doesn't agree with me. |
| + | |
| + | Still, I'll take the victories where I can get them. |
| + | |
| + | If nothing happens tonight, perhaps tomorrow we can finally get moving toward home. |
| + | |
| + | And maybe I'll find out whether magic can make a knife that never needs sharpening. |
| + | |
| + | Honestly, that might be the most useful discovery I've made since learning I can summon spirits. |
| + | |
| + | **Sparks. Rocky. Keep an eye out.** |
| + | |
| + | I'm going to try to rest. |
| + | |
| + | **I would very much like to wake up as myself.** |
| + | |
| + | --- |
| + | |
| + | *End of Entry 011.* |
| + | |
| + | *Personal note: Hergal noticed the village was suspicious too. I am not imagining things.* |
| + | |
| + | *Additional note: Successful landing! Gravity has been defeated. Temporarily.* |
| + | |
| + | *Equipment note: Test what Enhance Stones are actually allowed to improve before getting ambitious with a knife.* |
| + | |
| + | *Security note: Sparks and Rocky have the night watch. Whether I actually sleep is another question.* |
| + | |
| + | *Final note: My name is Cadmus. I am keeping my soul. And I am still owed a great deal more than twenty dollars.* |
| + | |

| + | |
| + | ## Entry 012 — The Longest Night |
| + | |
| + | **Region:** [[Locations/Lands/Ishalgen|Ishalgen]] → an unfamiliar shore |
| + | **Locations:** [[Locations/Ishalgen/Aldelle Village|Aldelle Village]], the airship, a village on the far shore |
| + | **People:** [[Characters/Aldell/Pelleir|Pelleir]], [[Hergal]], [[Characters/Garlond's Crew/Garlond|Garlond]], [[Characters/Garlond's Crew/Anders|Anders]], [[Nemon]] |
| + | **Companions:** [[Characters/Campanions/Sparks|Sparks]], [[Characters/Campanions/Bluey|Bluey]], [[Characters/Campanions/Rock|Rock]] |
| + | **Current condition:** Alive. Alone. |
| + | **Current objective:** Find the families of the people who died, if I can. |
| + | |
| + | --- |
| + | |
| + | ### I Was Right |
| + | |
| + | I woke up. |
| + | |
| + | And it was the whole damn village. |
| + | |
| + | **THE WHOLE VILLAGE.** |
| + | |
| + | All that time I spent worrying about [[Locations/Ishalgen/Aldelle Village|Aldelle Village]]. All the questions about how a nice little settlement could exist so close to [[Locations/Ishalgen/Fafnir Fortress|Fafnir Fortress]]. The [[Items/Veil Jewel|Veil Jewel]] that tried to take my soul. The warnings from [[Characters/Aldell/Elvida|Elvida]]. The way [[Characters/Aldell/Pelleir|Pelleir]] kept insisting everything was fine. |
| + | |
| + | I knew something was wrong. |
| + | |
| + | And somehow, I still went to sleep there. |
| + | |
| + | Or tried to. |
| + | |
| + | They turned on us. It wasn't one or two suspicious people. It was the village. |
| + | |
| + | I fought. I took them out. I did what I had to do to stay alive. |
| + | |
| + | I had wondered whether the villagers were being controlled, whether they knew what they were doing, whether any of them could be trusted. I don't know how much choice any of them had. |
| + | |
| + | But I know what happened when we stayed. |
| + | |
| + | ### Hergal |
| + | |
| + | [[Characters/Aldell/Pelleir|Pelleir]] killed [[Hergal]]. |
| + | |
| + | Hergal, who had already felt something was wrong with the villagers. |
| + | |
| + | Hergal, whom we had only just rescued from the prison compound. |
| + | |
| + | We went through all that trouble to get him and the others out. We found the prisoners. We brought them back. I thought we'd done something good. |
| + | |
| + | And then we brought them here. |
| + | |
| + | I keep thinking about that. |
| + | |
| + | He was right to be suspicious. |
| + | |
| + | **We were right.** |
| + | |
| + | I wish that had been enough. |
| + | |
| + | ### No More Villagers |
| + | |
| + | Pelleir is dead. |
| + | |
| + | I killed her. |
| + | |
| + | I said before that this village was a trap. I was angry. I wanted the threat dealt with. I made comments about getting rid of the villagers. |
| + | |
| + | Well. |
| + | |
| + | I guess I got my wish. |
| + | |
| + | **No more villagers.** |
| + | |
| + | Funny how terrible that sounds now. |
| + | |
| + | I don't feel victorious. I don't feel clever for spotting the warning signs. I don't even feel particularly relieved. |
| + | |
| + | I just keep thinking that if I'd pushed harder, if I'd insisted we leave during the day, maybe things would have gone differently. |
| + | |
| + | ### Garlond |
| + | |
| + | [[Characters/Garlond's Crew/Garlond|Garlond]] didn't make it. |
| + | |
| + | Neither did the others. |
| + | |
| + | After everything he survived—the destroyed airship, the [[Balaur]], the crash, the prison camp, searching for his missing crew—he was finally reunited with his people. |
| + | |
| + | They were supposed to leave in the morning. |
| + | |
| + | We were *so close*. |
| + | |
| + | I argued that the village was suspicious, but I didn't insist hard enough. I let the plan be to rest and leave at daylight. |
| + | |
| + | And now there won't be a morning departure for any of them. |
| + | |
| + | [[Hergal]]. [[Characters/Garlond's Crew/Garlond|Garlond]]. [[Characters/Garlond's Crew/Anders|Anders]]. The others we brought out. |
| + | |
| + | Gone. |
| + | |
| + | I didn't even know most of them for very long. |
| + | |
| + | That doesn't make it any better. |
| + | |
| + | ### The Airship |
| + | |
| + | I ran for the airship. |
| + | |
| + | I was the only one who got out. |
| + | |
| + | I finally reached it. After all that talk about finding a way home, here it was: a ship that could take me away from [[Locations/Lands/Ishalgen|Ishalgen]]. |
| + | |
| + | No Garlond to steer it. No crew to celebrate escaping. No one left to argue with me about whether the village was safe. |
| + | |
| + | Just me. |
| + | |
| + | I managed to get airborne. |
| + | |
| + | And then the damn ship got shot down. |
| + | |
| + | Of course it did. |
| + | |
| + | I survived a village full of enemies only to lose my escape route in the sky. |
| + | |
| + | Somehow, I made it into the water and swam until I reached shore. |
| + | |
| + | I don't know how much more of this I can take. |
| + | |
| + | ### Nemon |
| + | |
| + | There was another village on the shore. |
| + | |
| + | And there I saw **her**. |
| + | |
| + | The woman who got me out of [[Locations/Ishalgen/Fafnir Fortress|Fafnir Fortress]] at the very beginning of this whole mess. |
| + | |
| + | The one I couldn't put a name to. |
| + | |
| + | Her name is **[[Nemon]]**. |
| + | |
| + | So that's one answer, at least. |
| + | |
| + | I found her again. |
| + | |
| + | I got out. |
| + | |
| + | But the others didn't. |
| + | |
| + | ### Their Families |
| + | |
| + | Fuck. |
| + | |
| + | So many dead. |
| + | |
| + | I keep thinking about [[Bjorn]], the injured man who helped us find the prison map. About Hergal's suspicions. About how happy Garlond must have been when we found his people alive. |
| + | |
| + | I keep thinking about how they were supposed to leave at dawn. |
| + | |
| + | I should have pushed. I should have said we were leaving immediately. I should have refused to sleep there. |
| + | |
| + | I know I couldn't have known exactly what would happen. |
| + | |
| + | But I *knew* something was wrong. |
| + | |
| + | And I stayed. |
| + | |
| + | Now I can only hope I find their families. |
| + | |
| + | They deserve to know what happened. |
| + | |
| + | They deserve to know that the people they loved weren't forgotten, that someone tried to get them out, and that they came so close. |
| + | |
| + | I don't know how I'm supposed to tell them. |
| + | |
| + | But I want to try. |
| + | |
| + | ### Things I Need to Remember |
| + | |
| + | | Name or place | What happened | |
| + | | --- | --- | |
| + | | [[Locations/Ishalgen/Aldelle Village|Aldelle Village]] | The villagers attacked us during the night. I fought them and escaped. | |
| + | | [[Characters/Aldell/Pelleir|Pelleir]] | Killed Hergal. I killed her. | |
| + | | [[Hergal]] | Rescued from captivity, then killed in the village. He had warned that something was wrong. | |
| + | | [[Characters/Garlond's Crew/Garlond|Garlond]] | Died after being reunited with his missing crew. | |
| + | | [[Characters/Garlond's Crew/Anders|Anders]] and the others | Lost during the attack; I was the only one to escape. | |
| + | | Airship | I escaped aboard it, but it was shot down. | |
| + | | [[Nemon]] | The mysterious woman who saved me at Fafnir Fortress. I met her again after swimming ashore. | |
| + | | Families of the crew | I want to find them and tell them what happened. | |
| + | |
| + | ### Final Thoughts |
| + | |
| + | I spent so long joking about the twenty dollars. |
| + | |
| + | The terrible pay. The bad clothes. The ridiculous dangers. The people who wouldn't explain anything to me. |
| + | |
| + | I thought if I complained enough, maybe all this would eventually make sense. |
| + | |
| + | But there isn't a joke for this. |
| + | |
| + | Garlond wanted to save his people. |
| + | |
| + | We saved them. |
| + | |
| + | And then they died anyway. |
| + | |
| + | I made it out of [[Locations/Lands/Ishalgen|Ishalgen]]. |
| + | |
| + | I found [[Nemon]]. |
| + | |
| + | I'm alive. |
| + | |
| + | I don't know why that feels so difficult to write. |
| + | |
| + | **My name is Cadmus.** |
| + | |
| + | I remember their names. |
| + | |
| + | I intend to keep remembering them. |
| + | |
| + | --- |
| + | |
| + | *End of Entry 012.* |
| + | |
| + | *Personal note: Don't confuse being right about danger with having saved anyone from it.* |
| + | |
| + | *Promise: If I can find their families, I will tell them what happened.* |
| + | |
| + | *One last thing: Next time I believe a place isn't safe, I won't wait until morning.* |
| + | |
| + | --- |
| + | |

| + | ## Entry 001 — This Was Not Worth Twenty Dollars |
| + | |
| + | **Location:** [[Locations/Ishalgen/Fafnir Fortress|Fafnir Fortress]], although I didn't know that yet. |
| + | |
| + | So, here's the situation. |
| + | |
| + | I got hired for a job. |
| + | |
| + | Twenty dollars. |
| + | |
| + | That's it. Twenty fucking dollars. |
| + | |
| + | I don't know what I was expecting for that amount of money, but whatever is happening right now was definitely not mentioned in the job description. |
| + | |
| + | I have absolutely no idea what's going on. |
| + | |
| + | I've somehow ended up somewhere dangerous, and nobody has bothered to provide a satisfactory explanation. |
| + | |
| + | Fortunately, a mysterious woman helped get me out. |
| + | |
| + | Also, she has a boob window. |
| + | |
| + | I feel like that's important enough to document. |
| + | |
| + | I don't know her name, what her job is, or why she decided to help me, but I appreciate not being trapped anymore. |
| + | |
| + | I suppose I should be grateful. |
| + | |
| + | Actually, I am grateful. |
| + | |
| + | I'm just confused. |
| + | |
| + | **Current assessment:** |
| + | |
| + | - Alive, apparently. |
| + | - Completely lost. |
| + | - No understanding of the situation. |
| + | - Saved by a strangely dressed woman. |
| + | - Still owed a satisfactory explanation. |
| + | |
| + | |
| + | _Personal note: Next time, demand payment up front. Preferably significantly more than twenty dollars._ |
| + | |
| + | --- |
| + | |
| + | ## Entry 002 — I Have a Fire Spirit Now |
| + | |
| + | **Location:** Outside the [[Locations/Ishalgen/Fafnir Fortress|Fafnir Fortress]] |
| + | |
| + | Well, I'm out. |
| + | |
| + | Still don't understand what happened, but at least I'm no longer trapped. |
| + | |
| + | More importantly, I have a [[Characters/Races/Fire Spirit|Fire Spirit]] now. |
| + | |
| + | I've named him [[Characters/Campanions/Sparks|Sparks]]. |
| + | |
| + | Yes, [[Characters/Campanions/Sparks|Sparks]]. |
| + | |
| + | It's a fire spirit. What else was I supposed to call him? Bartholomew? |
| + | |
| + | Apparently, I can summon elemental creatures. |
| + | |
| + | That's certainly going on my résumé. |
| + | |
| + | I'm not entirely certain how this works. I don't know how intelligent Sparks is, what he thinks of me, or whether he even likes his name. |
| + | |
| + | Still, it's nice to have company. |
| + | |
| + | Especially since I have absolutely no idea where I am. |
| + | |
| + | I suppose having a creature made of fire following me around might also prove useful. |
| + | |
| + | At least I won't need to worry about lighting a campfire. |
| + | |
| + | Maybe. |
| + | |
| + | **Current companions:** [[Characters/Campanions/Sparks|Sparks]], Fire Spirit. |
| + | |
| + | _Personal note: Find out if Sparks eats anything. Also, figure out what I'm supposed to do next._ |
| + | |
| + | --- |
| + | |
| + | ## Entry 003 — A Village in the Fog |
| + | |
| + | **Location:** [[Locations/Ishalgen/Aldelle Village|Aldelle Village]], [[Locations/Lands/Ishalgen|Ishalgen]]. |
| + | |
| + | Well, I've finally figured out where I was. |
| + | |
| + | [[Locations/Ishalgen/Fafnir Fortress|Fafnir Fortress]] |
| + | |
| + | Apparently, that place was a big deal. |
| + | |
| + | Would have been nice to know before I ended up there. |
| + | |
| + | After passing [[Locations/Ishalgen/Aldelle Hill|Aldelle Hill]], I eventually reached a settlement called [[Locations/Ishalgen/Aldelle Village|Aldelle Village]]. |
| + | |
| + | Civilization! |
| + | |
| + | People! |
| + | |
| + | Buildings! |
| + | |
| + | Somewhere that doesn't immediately look like it's trying to kill me! |
| + | |
| + | At the gate, I met a man named [[Characters/Aldell/Andre|Andre]]. |
| + | |
| + | He seemed particularly surprised when I mentioned the fortress. |
| + | |
| + | Apparently, escaping from there isn't exactly an everyday occurrence. |
| + | |
| + | Wonderful. |
| + | |
| + | He directed me to the village chief, [[Characters/Aldell/Pelleir|Pelleir]]. |
| + | |
| + | She seemed helpful enough. |
| + | |
| + | According to her, my best chance of getting home is to reach [[Altgard]]. |
| + | |
| + | Never heard of it, but at least I have a destination now. |
| + | |
| + | She also mentioned that [[Locations/Lands/Ishalgen|Ishalgen]] isn't what it used to be. |
| + | |
| + | Apparently, this land no longer belongs to the [[Characters/Races/Daeva|Daeva]]. |
| + | |
| + | Whatever that means. |
| + | |
| + | Speaking of which, people keep using the word [[Characters/Races/Daeva|Daeva]] like I'm supposed to understand it. |
| + | |
| + | I'm beginning to suspect there's a great deal about this world that nobody has bothered explaining to me. |
| + | |
| + | Pelleir also mentioned something called a **[[Kibelisk]]**, a magical object that supposedly allows you to return to a location. |
| + | |
| + | Sounds useful. |
| + | |
| + | Another strange thing: I'm apparently not the only outsider who's arrived here recently. |
| + | |
| + | There are other unfamiliar people around. |
| + | |
| + | Maybe they escaped the fortress like I did. |
| + | |
| + | Maybe not. |
| + | |
| + | Still haven't found anyone I recognize. |
| + | |
| + | At least there's [[Characters/Campanions/Sparks|Sparks]]. |
| + | |
| + | **Current objective:** Learn about the Kibelisk, gather supplies, and find a way to Altgard. |
| + | |
| + | _Personal note: Civilization is nice. Hopefully the locals aren't secretly insane._ |
| + | |
| + | --- |
| + | |
| + | ## Entry 004 — New Clothes and a Possible Conspiracy |
| + | |
| + | **Location:** [[Locations/Ishalgen/Aldelle Village|Aldelle Village]] and [[Locations/Ishalgen/Munihelle Forest|Munihelle Forest]]. |
| + | |
| + | Well, I've bound myself to a **[[Kibelisk]]**. |
| + | |
| + | The statue is purple now. |
| + | |
| + | Apparently, that's normal. |
| + | |
| + | And apparently, I'm a **[[Characters/Races/Daeva|Daeva]]**. |
| + | |
| + | Daeva. |
| + | |
| + | Deava? |
| + | |
| + | No, Daeva. |
| + | |
| + | I think that's how you spell it. |
| + | |
| + | Does that make me a different species? Is it a title? A profession? |
| + | |
| + | Does it come with benefits? |
| + | |
| + | A pension? |
| + | |
| + | Dental insurance? |
| + | |
| + | Nobody has explained. |
| + | |
| + | ### Finally, Proper Equipment |
| + | |
| + | A girl named [[Characters/Aldell/Ellin|Ellin]] gave me some health potions. |
| + | |
| + | Very nice of her. |
| + | |
| + | Then I visited [[Characters/Aldell/Stellan|Stellan]], who provided spare equipment. |
| + | |
| + | Which brings me to an important detail. |
| + | |
| + | I've been wearing white clothes and flip-flops. |
| + | |
| + | Yes. |
| + | |
| + | Flip-flops. |
| + | |
| + | I accepted a twenty-dollar job dressed like someone going to the beach and somehow ended up escaping a fortress. |
| + | |
| + | In hindsight, that might have been a mistake. |
| + | |
| + | Fortunately, Stellan's equipment is better. |
| + | |
| + | He also gave me twenty **[[Return Scrolls]]**. |
| + | |
| + | Very useful. |
| + | |
| + | I'm starting to appreciate magical transportation. |
| + | |
| + | ### The [[Mumu]] Problem |
| + | |
| + | Naturally, [[Characters/Aldell/Pelleir|Pelleir]] had another job for me. |
| + | |
| + | Some supplies had been stolen by something called **Mumu**. |
| + | |
| + | Mumu. |
| + | |
| + | Stupid name. |
| + | |
| + | I was sent to help a man named [[Characters/Aldell/Maard|Maard]] recover the supplies. |
| + | |
| + | Turns out the Mumu aren't people. |
| + | |
| + | They're large animals. |
| + | |
| + | That explains some things. |
| + | |
| + | Still a stupid name. |
| + | |
| + | ### A New Spirit |
| + | |
| + | Good news! |
| + | |
| + | I can summon a **[[Water Spirit]]** now. |
| + | |
| + | Apparently, when it attacks, it can help restore some of my magical energy. |
| + | |
| + | That's brilliant! |
| + | |
| + | I spend magic to summon it, and it helps me recover magic while fighting. |
| + | |
| + | Extremely useful. |
| + | |
| + | Haven't decided on a name yet. |
| + | |
| + | ### The Alleged Witch |
| + | |
| + | Things took a strange turn when I encountered a woman named [[Characters/Aldell/Elvida|Elvida]] |
| + | |
| + | She was trying to destroy some kind of magical pillar. |
| + | |
| + | Maard called her crazy. |
| + | |
| + | So I listened to him. |
| + | |
| + | That may have been a mistake. |
| + | |
| + | Apparently, Elvida follows something called the [[Three Sisters of Fate]]. |
| + | |
| + | She also claims the magical structures around here are being used to brainwash people like me. |
| + | |
| + | Excuse me? |
| + | |
| + | WHAT? |
| + | |
| + | I'm starting to wonder whether she's actually crazy or whether everyone else is lying. |
| + | |
| + | I need answers. |
| + | |
| + | _Personal note: Stop automatically trusting people who call other people crazy._ |
| + | |
| + | --- |
| + | |
| + | ## Entry 005 — I Am NOT Becoming a Fucking Gem |
| + | |
| + | **Location:** [[Locations/Ishalgen/Munihelle Forest|Munihelle Forest]], [[Locations/Lands/Ishalgen|Ishalgen]] |
| + | |
| + | Well, I spoke to [[Characters/Aldell/Pelleir|Pelleir]] about [[Characters/Aldell/Elvida|Elvida]]. |
| + | |
| + | She tried to downplay the whole situation again. |
| + | |
| + | Apparently, she's worried about something called the [[Items/Veil Jewel|Veil Jewel]] |
| + | |
| + | Supposedly, it protects the village. |
| + | |
| + | And she wanted me to go investigate it. |
| + | |
| + | Fair enough. |
| + | |
| + | Then she said something rather concerning. |
| + | |
| + | **IF I FIND ELVIDA AGAIN, I'M SUPPOSED TO KILL HER.** |
| + | |
| + | Excuse me? |
| + | |
| + | We've gone from investigating suspicious magical objects to assassination? |
| + | |
| + | That escalated quickly. |
| + | |
| + | ### The Journey |
| + | |
| + | On my way toward the lake, I met [[Characters/Aldell/Caldern|Caldern]], who warned me about dangers along the route. |
| + | |
| + | Naturally. |
| + | |
| + | Why wouldn't there be? |
| + | |
| + | While travelling, I spotted a strange column of rising air. |
| + | |
| + | An updraft. |
| + | |
| + | Interesting. |
| + | |
| + | I decided to step into it. |
| + | |
| + | After all, how powerful could some rising air possibly be? |
| + | |
| + | ... |
| + | |
| + | **I WAS VERY WRONG.** |
| + | |
| + | Turns out that thing was considerably stronger than expected. |
| + | |
| + | And the ground was not especially welcoming when I landed. |
| + | |
| + | Extremely hard. |
| + | |
| + | Very painful. |
| + | |
| + | New rule: Don't test suspicious wind currents with your body. |
| + | |
| + | ### The [[Items/Veil Jewel|Veil Jewel]] |
| + | |
| + | Eventually, I reached the lake and found the Veil Jewel. |
| + | |
| + | The magical object everyone was so concerned about. |
| + | |
| + | I went to investigate. |
| + | |
| + | And... |
| + | |
| + | **IT TRIED TO TAKE MY FUCKING SOUL.** |
| + | |
| + | MY SOUL. |
| + | |
| + | THE ONE INSIDE ME. |
| + | |
| + | THE ONE I WOULD VERY MUCH LIKE TO KEEP. |
| + | |
| + | Apparently, this thing wanted to turn me into a gemstone. |
| + | |
| + | NO. |
| + | |
| + | ABSOLUTELY NOT. |
| + | |
| + | I like my soul where it is. |
| + | |
| + | Inside me. |
| + | |
| + | Not in a rock. |
| + | |
| + | Not in a crystal. |
| + | |
| + | And certainly not in somebody's jewelry collection. |
| + | |
| + | ### I Think the Village Is Lying |
| + | |
| + | Let's review. |
| + | |
| + | Pelleir told me Elvida was dangerous. |
| + | |
| + | She insisted the jewel protected the village. |
| + | |
| + | She suggested killing Elvida. |
| + | |
| + | And then the jewel tried to steal my soul. |
| + | |
| + | Does anyone else see the problem? |
| + | |
| + | Because I certainly do. |
| + | |
| + | I'm beginning to suspect that Elvida was telling the truth. |
| + | |
| + | Also, something occurred to me. |
| + | |
| + | Where exactly does [[Characters/Aldell/Stellan|Stellan]] get all that spare equipment? |
| + | |
| + | If people keep arriving here, and the jewel is turning people into crystals... |
| + | |
| + | Is he recycling the equipment of previous victims? |
| + | |
| + | I have no evidence. |
| + | |
| + | But that's an extremely unpleasant possibility. |
| + | |
| + | I'm keeping the armor. |
| + | |
| + | It's better than flip-flops. |
| + | |
| + | But I'm washing it. |
| + | |
| + | **Next destination:** [[Locations/Ishalgen/Elvida's hideout|Elvida's hideout]]. |
| + | |
| + | _Personal note: My soul is not for sale. Especially not for twenty dollars._ |

| + | ## Entry 006 — Apparently the Lake Is a Soul-Stealing Cult |
| + | |
| + | ### Documents Copied |
| + | |
| + | - [[Logs/Origin of the Lake/Origin of the Lake Documents|Origin of the Lake Documents]] |
| + | - [[Logs/Verdandi's Journal Documents/Verdandi's Journal Documents|Verdandi's Journal Documents]] |
| + | |
| + | **Location:** Near [[Locations/Ishalgen/Elvida's hideout|Elvida's hideout]]. |
| + | |
| + | I've found some documents. |
| + | |
| + | Actual written records! |
| + | |
| + | Finally! |
| + | |
| + | Something that might explain what the hell is happening. |
| + | |
| + | Unfortunately, the information is horrifying. |
| + | |
| + | ### [[Verdandi]]'s Journal |
| + | |
| + | The first document belonged to someone named **Verdandi**. |
| + | |
| + | Apparently, she used to guide [[Characters/Races/Daeva|Daeva]] through something called the **[[Ascension Trial]]**. |
| + | |
| + | She led them toward a hidden cave entrance near the lake. |
| + | |
| + | She also wrote about having to leave because of a prophecy. |
| + | |
| + | Before departing, she intended to entrust her duties to her students. |
| + | |
| + | And guess who was supposed to watch over the place? |
| + | |
| + | [[Characters/Aldell/Elvida|Elvida]]. |
| + | |
| + | Yes. |
| + | |
| + | The alleged crazy witch. |
| + | |
| + | Apparently, she was meant to greet someone destined to lead people to a place called the **[[Land of Rest]]**. |
| + | |
| + | No idea what that means. |
| + | |
| + | But Elvida is looking considerably more credible. |
| + | |
| + | ### Origin of the Lake |
| + | |
| + | The second document explained something even more interesting. |
| + | |
| + | Apparently, the lake was once a place of healing. |
| + | |
| + | Its waters could mend scars and fractured souls. |
| + | |
| + | Some people even recovered forgotten names. |
| + | |
| + | That's beautiful. |
| + | |
| + | So how did it become a soul-stealing nightmare? |
| + | |
| + | Apparently, the **[[Balaur]]** and a [[Dragon Lord]] named **[[Characters/Antagonists/Fafnir|Fafnir]]** were involved. |
| + | |
| + | Fafnir seized [[Locations/Lands/Ishalgen|Ishalgen]] and scattered magical jewels throughout the land. |
| + | |
| + | The jewels began speaking to people. |
| + | |
| + | Saying things like: |
| + | |
| + | **"Your soul shall become my crystal."** |
| + | |
| + | Oh, I remember that! |
| + | |
| + | IT TRIED TO DO THAT TO ME! |
| + | |
| + | And: |
| + | |
| + | **"Speak not. Remember not. Only obey."** |
| + | |
| + | Apparently, those who listened lost their personalities and emotions. |
| + | |
| + | They continued breathing, but the writer considered them already dead. |
| + | |
| + | That's horrifying. |
| + | |
| + | Imagine losing everything that makes you yourself. |
| + | |
| + | Your memories. |
| + | |
| + | Your feelings. |
| + | |
| + | Your identity. |
| + | |
| + | No. |
| + | |
| + | Absolutely not. |
| + | |
| + | **MY NAME IS [[Characters/PC/Cadmus|Cadmus]].** |
| + | |
| + | C-A-D-M-U-S. |
| + | |
| + | I'm keeping it. |
| + | |
| + | ### The Hidden Sanctuary |
| + | |
| + | Apparently, there's a sacred sanctuary beneath the lake. |
| + | |
| + | A place connected to the original [[Waters of Ascension]]. |
| + | |
| + | According to the record, it remains untouched by Fafnir's corruption. |
| + | |
| + | The writer wondered whether a Daeva might resist the jewel, discover the hidden entrance, and perhaps save the world. |
| + | |
| + | ... |
| + | |
| + | No. |
| + | |
| + | I recognize where this is going. |
| + | |
| + | Some ancient prophecy. |
| + | |
| + | An evil [[Dragon Lord]]. |
| + | |
| + | A mysterious chosen individual. |
| + | |
| + | Well, let me make something clear. |
| + | |
| + | **I WAS HIRED FOR TWENTY DOLLARS.** |
| + | |
| + | Saving the world is not included in that price. |
| + | |
| + | There will need to be substantial renegotiation. |
| + | |
| + | ### The Scribe's Warning |
| + | |
| + | The final note came from a scribe who heard Fafnir's whispers. |
| + | |
| + | Apparently, the voice was full of lies. |
| + | |
| + | The scribe decided to leave the lake and never return. |
| + | |
| + | FINALLY. |
| + | |
| + | A SENSIBLE PERSON. |
| + | |
| + | Unfortunately, I'm already involved. |
| + | |
| + | And I still need answers. |
| + | |
| + | **Current assessment:** Elvida appears to have a legitimate connection to the original [[Ascension]] sanctuary. The jewels are dangerous. The village is suspicious. |
| + | |
| + | _Personal note: Remember my name. Don't trust talking gemstones._ |
| + | |
| + | --- |
| + | |
| + | ## Entry 007 — I Have Wings Now. This Was NOT in the Contract. |
| + | |
| + | **Location:** [[Tunapre Lake]] Cave and [[Ascension Subspace]]. |
| + | |
| + | Well, I found the cave. |
| + | |
| + | The hidden entrance mentioned in [[Verdandi]]'s journal. |
| + | |
| + | Getting inside involved swimming. |
| + | |
| + | Wonderful. |
| + | |
| + | We've now added underwater exploration to my job description. |
| + | |
| + | At least the cave was beautiful. |
| + | |
| + | There were lovely little butterflies. |
| + | |
| + | For once, something that wasn't trying to murder me. |
| + | |
| + | Then I heard a voice. |
| + | |
| + | A creepy voice. |
| + | |
| + | Apparently, it wanted me to come closer. |
| + | |
| + | And it kept calling me its **fragment and shadow**. |
| + | |
| + | Excuse me? |
| + | |
| + | YOUR WHAT? |
| + | |
| + | I don't remember agreeing to be anyone's fragment. |
| + | |
| + | ### The [[Lake Guardian]] |
| + | |
| + | Then I encountered a woman made of water. |
| + | |
| + | Or associated with water. |
| + | |
| + | Something like that. |
| + | |
| + | Honestly? |
| + | |
| + | Kind of hot. |
| + | |
| + | Unfortunately, she tried to drown me. |
| + | |
| + | **OF COURSE SHE DID.** |
| + | |
| + | WHY WOULDN'T SHE? |
| + | |
| + | Apparently, she's the **Lake Guardian**. |
| + | |
| + | [[Characters/Campanions/Sparks|Sparks]] was not particularly happy about the situation. |
| + | |
| + | Understandable. |
| + | |
| + | He's made of fire. |
| + | |
| + | My [[Water Spirit]], however, seemed considerably less bothered. |
| + | |
| + | Which reminds me. |
| + | |
| + | I've named him **[[Characters/Campanions/Bluey|Bluey]]**. |
| + | |
| + | So now I have Sparks and [[Characters/Campanions/Bluey|Bluey]]. |
| + | |
| + | Perfect names. |
| + | |
| + | We survived the guardian's test. |
| + | |
| + | Somehow. |
| + | |
| + | ### Meeting [[Asahr]] |
| + | |
| + | Afterward, I found myself in another strange room. |
| + | |
| + | There was a mysterious figure named **Asahr**. |
| + | |
| + | Couldn't see his face. |
| + | |
| + | Naturally. |
| + | |
| + | Nobody in this world believes in normal introductions. |
| + | |
| + | Apparently, Asahr is **[[AION]]'s ego**. |
| + | |
| + | And apparently, I'm a **Fragment of AION**. |
| + | |
| + | ... |
| + | |
| + | WHAT? |
| + | |
| + | Who is AION? |
| + | |
| + | What do you mean fragment? |
| + | |
| + | Was I always a fragment? |
| + | |
| + | Is there a larger version of me somewhere? |
| + | |
| + | I HAVE QUESTIONS! |
| + | |
| + | ### I HAVE WINGS! |
| + | |
| + | Then something amazing happened. |
| + | |
| + | **I GREW WINGS!** |
| + | |
| + | ACTUAL WINGS! |
| + | |
| + | I CAN FLY! |
| + | |
| + | This is incredible! |
| + | |
| + | Although... |
| + | |
| + | Oh, gods. |
| + | |
| + | My clothes. |
| + | |
| + | I'm going to need holes in all my shirts. |
| + | |
| + | Do you have any idea how expensive custom tailoring can be? |
| + | |
| + | I JUST GOT NEW EQUIPMENT! |
| + | |
| + | Fortunately, it turns out I can retract the wings whenever I want. |
| + | |
| + | Oh, thank goodness. |
| + | |
| + | At least that's one problem solved. |
| + | |
| + | ### More [[Ascension]] Requirements |
| + | |
| + | Apparently, this wasn't the end. |
| + | |
| + | Asahr introduced an **[[Ascension Gauge]]** with additional requirements. |
| + | |
| + | The list includes quests such as **[[Verdant Melody]]** and **[[The One Who Hears the Voice]]**, along with reaching 100% gauge progress. |
| + | |
| + | More quests. |
| + | |
| + | More trials. |
| + | |
| + | More magical nonsense. |
| + | |
| + | Of course. |
| + | |
| + | Still, I have wings now. |
| + | |
| + | That's pretty amazing. |
| + | |
| + | **Current companions:** Sparks and Bluey. |
| + | |
| + | **New ability:** Flight. |
| + | |
| + | **Current questions:** What is AION? Why am I a fragment? What exactly does Ascension mean? |
| + | |
| + | _Personal note: Buy wing-friendly clothing._ |
| + | |
| + | _Additional note: Avoid attractive magical water creatures._ |
| + | |
| + | --- |
| + | |
| + | ## Entry 008 — Gravity Has Killed Me. Also, I Think This Village Is a Trap. |
| + | |
| + | **Location:** [[Locations/Ishalgen/Aldelle Village|Aldelle Village]], [[Anturn Cliff]], and the crashed airship. |
| + | |
| + | Well, my aura seems different after [[Ascension]]. |
| + | |
| + | No idea exactly what that means. |
| + | |
| + | But now I have another goal. |
| + | |
| + | **GET OFF THIS ISLAND.** |
| + | |
| + | Apparently, there's an airship somewhere. |
| + | |
| + | An actual flying ship. |
| + | |
| + | Sounds useful. |
| + | |
| + | I have absolutely no idea how to pilot one. |
| + | |
| + | But no time like the present to learn. |
| + | |
| + | ### Back to the Village |
| + | |
| + | I returned to Aldelle Village. |
| + | |
| + | Naturally, everyone was concerned about the destroyed [[Items/Veil Jewel|Veil Jewel]]. |
| + | |
| + | I told them I couldn't find [[Characters/Aldell/Elvida|Elvida]] and that monsters had kept me busy before I could stop the jewel from being destroyed. |
| + | |
| + | A perfectly reasonable explanation. |
| + | |
| + | I'm certainly not telling them everything. |
| + | |
| + | Especially after what I discovered. |
| + | |
| + | Meanwhile, **[[Characters/Aldell/Menos|Menos]]** seems interested in doing some particularly horrible things to Elvida. |
| + | |
| + | Not merely killing her. |
| + | |
| + | Making her suffer. |
| + | |
| + | Charming fellow. |
| + | |
| + | **Personal note: If Menos tries to hurt Elvida, stop him first.** |
| + | |
| + | [[Characters/Aldell/Pelleir|Pelleir]] then asked me to investigate a crashed airship. |
| + | |
| + | Finally. |
| + | |
| + | A job that makes sense. |
| + | |
| + | Find survivors. |
| + | |
| + | Help them. |
| + | |
| + | Possibly find a way out. |
| + | |
| + | ### [[Milred]] and the Updrafts |
| + | |
| + | On the way, I met **Milred**. |
| + | |
| + | She explained how updrafts work. |
| + | |
| + | ... |
| + | |
| + | OH. |
| + | |
| + | SO THAT'S HOW YOU USE THEM. |
| + | |
| + | THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN EXTREMELY USEFUL INFORMATION BEFORE I FELL OUT OF ONE. |
| + | |
| + | But fine. |
| + | |
| + | Better late than never. |
| + | |
| + | ### The Campsite |
| + | |
| + | I climbed Anturn Cliff and discovered a campsite. |
| + | |
| + | Not a bad one, actually. |
| + | |
| + | Someone had left a fire burning. |
| + | |
| + | There were supplies too. |
| + | |
| + | I considered taking some, but that would be stealing. |
| + | |
| + | And the owner might still be alive. |
| + | |
| + | So I left everything alone. |
| + | |
| + | See? |
| + | |
| + | I can be responsible. |
| + | |
| + | Occasionally. |
| + | |
| + | ### [[Characters/Garlond's Crew/Garlond|Garlond]] |
| + | |
| + | I found a survivor named **Garlond**. |
| + | |
| + | Apparently, he had been aboard the crashed airship. |
| + | |
| + | I helped him. |
| + | |
| + | Because I'm not going to abandon someone who's clearly in trouble. |
| + | |
| + | Besides, he might know how to pilot the thing. |
| + | |
| + | The **[[Balaur]]** were involved in the disaster. |
| + | |
| + | AGAIN. |
| + | |
| + | Those bloody creatures keep appearing everywhere. |
| + | |
| + | ### My First Flight Disaster |
| + | |
| + | At some point, I decided to test my new wings. |
| + | |
| + | Flying was amazing! |
| + | |
| + | The freedom! |
| + | |
| + | The view! |
| + | |
| + | The ability to travel through the sky! |
| + | |
| + | Then something happened. |
| + | |
| + | My flight energy started running out. |
| + | |
| + | Wait. |
| + | |
| + | WHAT? |
| + | |
| + | **WHAT DO YOU MEAN I CAN RUN OUT OF FLIGHT ENERGY?!** |
| + | |
| + | WHY WAS NOBODY EXPLAINING THIS?! |
| + | |
| + | I fell. |
| + | |
| + | And this time... |
| + | |
| + | **I DIED.** |
| + | |
| + | ACTUALLY DIED. |
| + | |
| + | The ground made a very convincing argument against my continued existence. |
| + | |
| + | Then some magical stone brought me back. |
| + | |
| + | Apparently, resurrection is possible. |
| + | |
| + | Which is an interesting discovery. |
| + | |
| + | And a deeply uncomfortable one. |
| + | |
| + | Death is a hell of a thing. |
| + | |
| + | I don't particularly want to repeat it. |
| + | |
| + | ### I Need to Go Home |
| + | |
| + | After that incident, I started thinking about home. |
| + | |
| + | I really need to return. |
| + | |
| + | Enough adventure. |
| + | |
| + | Enough soul-stealing jewelry. |
| + | |
| + | Enough flying accidents. |
| + | |
| + | But... |
| + | |
| + | What's the name of home again? |
| + | |
| + | Strange. |
| + | |
| + | I can't seem to remember. |
| + | |
| + | Probably just exhaustion. |
| + | |
| + | I've been through a lot. |
| + | |
| + | Still, maybe I should keep writing things down. |
| + | |
| + | **My name is [[Characters/PC/Cadmus|Cadmus]].** |
| + | |
| + | That's important. |
| + | |
| + | ### Garlond's Airship Log |
| + | |
| + | - [[Logs/Garlond's Airship logs Documents/Garlond's Airship logs documents|Garlond's Airship logs documents]] |
| + | |
| + | I returned to the campsite and discovered it belonged to Garlond. |
| + | |
| + | There, I found his airship logs. |
| + | |
| + | I made copies. |
| + | |
| + | And the contents were disturbing. |
| + | |
| + | Apparently, [[Characters/Garlond's Crew/Garlond|Garlond]] and his crew had investigated a place called **the [[Bulwark]]**, near **[[Morheim]]**. |
| + | |
| + | They were driven away by people who seemed to be [[Characters/Races/Daeva|Daeva]]. |
| + | |
| + | Their base was already destroyed. |
| + | |
| + | Then they tried travelling to **[[Altgard]]**. |
| + | |
| + | On the way, masked figures attacked them. |
| + | |
| + | These attackers looked like Daeva. |
| + | |
| + | But they fought alongside the Balaur. |
| + | |
| + | **WAIT. WHAT?** |
| + | |
| + | DAEVA WORKING WITH THE BALAUR?! |
| + | |
| + | That seems like something people should be concerned about! |
| + | |
| + | The crew barely escaped. |
| + | |
| + | When they reached Altgard, the place was burning. |
| + | |
| + | Wonderful. |
| + | |
| + | That's where I'm supposed to go to find a way home. |
| + | |
| + | Naturally, it's in ruins. |
| + | |
| + | The survivors searched for somewhere safe and heard about a place called the **[[Immortal Isle]]**. |
| + | |
| + | They even discovered treasure in an unfamiliar cave. |
| + | |
| + | But their airship was falling apart. |
| + | |
| + | Eventually, the controls failed. |
| + | |
| + | They crashed in [[Locations/Lands/Ishalgen|Ishalgen]]. |
| + | |
| + | And Garlond's final entry revealed something rather unpleasant. |
| + | |
| + | **ISHALGEN IS CONTROLLED BY THE BALAUR.** |
| + | |
| + | Apparently, Daeva have no place here. |
| + | |
| + | ... |
| + | |
| + | Then why does Aldelle Village look so nice? |
| + | |
| + | Why is there a functioning settlement? |
| + | |
| + | Why does everyone act like everything is perfectly normal? |
| + | |
| + | Why are newcomers constantly arriving? |
| + | |
| + | And why was there a soul-stealing jewel near the village? |
| + | |
| + | Oh. |
| + | |
| + | Oh, I don't like where this thought is going. |
| + | |
| + | **WHAT IF THE VILLAGE IS A TRAP?** |
| + | |
| + | ### The [[Wind Stream]] |
| + | |
| + | On a somewhat brighter note, I found a **Wind Stream**. |
| + | |
| + | Naturally, I tested it. |
| + | |
| + | It was FAST. |
| + | |
| + | VERY FAST. |
| + | |
| + | Wasn't prepared for the landing. |
| + | |
| + | Apparently, having wings doesn't automatically make someone a good pilot. |
| + | |
| + | I've developed a new respect for rocks. |
| + | |
| + | They're extremely solid. |
| + | |
| + | Usually at the worst possible moment. |
| + | |
| + | ### Final Thoughts |
| + | |
| + | Garlond seems unsettled by the village too. |
| + | |
| + | And honestly? |
| + | |
| + | I don't blame him. |
| + | |
| + | This entire region is supposedly under enemy control, yet Aldelle Village is conveniently welcoming. |
| + | |
| + | It's suspicious. |
| + | |
| + | Very suspicious. |
| + | |
| + | I'm starting to think the village might exist to lure people like me into a trap. |
| + | |
| + | I can't prove it yet. |
| + | |
| + | But I intend to find out. |
| + | |
| + | _Personal note: Learn how to land._ |
| + | |
| + | _Additional note: Buy a helmet._ |
| + | |
| + | _Final note: I DIED FOR TWENTY DOLLARS._ |
| + | |
| + | --- |
| + | |
| + | ## Entry 009 — Thirty Minutes From the Fortress. THIRTY. |
| + | |
| + | **Location:** Near [[Azrakar Brigade Camp]], [[Locations/Lands/Ishalgen|Ishalgen]]. |
| + | |
| + | **Current objective:** Rescue [[Characters/Garlond's Crew/Garlond|Garlond]]'s missing companions. |
| + | |
| + | **Companions:** [[Characters/Campanions/Sparks|Sparks]] and [[Characters/Campanions/Bluey|Bluey]]. |
| + | |
| + | **Known allies:** Garlond and [[Characters/Garlond's Crew/Anders|Anders]]. |
| + | |
| + | Well, apparently we're going on another rescue mission. |
| + | |
| + | Garlond wants to find his missing companions. |
| + | |
| + | And honestly? |
| + | |
| + | I can't blame him. |
| + | |
| + | He survived an airship crash, ended up stranded in [[Balaur]] territory, and has no idea how many of his friends are still alive. |
| + | |
| + | That's awful. |
| + | |
| + | So I've decided to help. |
| + | |
| + | Because apparently, despite all my complaining, I cannot bring myself to leave people behind when they might still be saved. |
| + | |
| + | Wonderful. |
| + | |
| + | Having a conscience is becoming rather expensive. |
| + | |
| + | We're heading toward an enemy camp. |
| + | |
| + | I have a bad feeling about this. |
| + | |
| + | **This feels like a trap.** |
| + | |
| + | ### Thirty Minutes |
| + | |
| + | Something occurred to me during the journey. |
| + | |
| + | Remember [[Locations/Ishalgen/Fafnir Fortress|Fafnir Fortress]]? |
| + | |
| + | The enormous, horrifying place I escaped from? |
| + | |
| + | Well, I've been thinking about how far it is from [[Locations/Ishalgen/Aldelle Village|Aldelle Village]]. |
| + | |
| + | And I realized something. |
| + | |
| + | **THE VILLAGE IS ABOUT THIRTY MINUTES FROM THE FORTRESS.** |
| + | |
| + | THIRTY. |
| + | |
| + | MINUTES. |
| + | |
| + | THAT'S IT. |
| + | |
| + | ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?! |
| + | |
| + | I escaped from a fortress connected to a [[Dragon Lord]] who apparently conquered this region. |
| + | |
| + | And then I arrived at a perfectly friendly village practically next door. |
| + | |
| + | With supplies. |
| + | |
| + | Equipment. |
| + | |
| + | Healing potions. |
| + | |
| + | A helpful village chief. |
| + | |
| + | And a magical jewel that steals souls. |
| + | |
| + | **HOW DID I NOT IMMEDIATELY ASSUME THIS PLACE WAS A TRAP?!** |
| + | |
| + | I was so relieved to find civilization that I overlooked how suspicious the entire situation was. |
| + | |
| + | Garlond's records say the Balaur control Ishalgen. |
| + | |
| + | So why is Aldelle Village still standing? |
| + | |
| + | Why hasn't it been attacked? |
| + | |
| + | What happens to all the outsiders who pass through? |
| + | |
| + | I have theories. |
| + | |
| + | I need evidence. |
| + | |
| + | ### Another [[Kibelisk]] |
| + | |
| + | On the way toward the camp, I found another one of those magical statues. |
| + | |
| + | A **Kibelisk**. |
| + | |
| + | It's near the camp. |
| + | |
| + | Convenient. |
| + | |
| + | Especially considering my previous experience with death. |
| + | |
| + | Apparently, dying is a possibility I should account for. |
| + | |
| + | I would rather not. |
| + | |
| + | But having a return point nearby seems sensible. |
| + | |
| + | **Personal note: Remember where I'm bound.** |
| + | |
| + | ### We Found Anders! |
| + | |
| + | Good news! |
| + | |
| + | We found another survivor! |
| + | |
| + | A man named **Anders**. |
| + | |
| + | Apparently, he's one of Garlond's companions. |
| + | |
| + | And he's alive! |
| + | |
| + | Even better, a few others apparently survived too. |
| + | |
| + | That's genuinely wonderful. |
| + | |
| + | For once, something good has happened. |
| + | |
| + | Someone we were looking for is alive. |
| + | |
| + | We don't know the full situation yet, but it's progress. |
| + | |
| + | ### The Enemy Camp |
| + | |
| + | Unfortunately, there are still missing people. |
| + | |
| + | And we may be able to find clues inside the nearby **Azrakar Brigade Camp**. |
| + | |
| + | Which means... |
| + | |
| + | Yes. |
| + | |
| + | That's right. |
| + | |
| + | I'm going to investigate an enemy military camp. |
| + | |
| + | Me. |
| + | |
| + | [[Characters/PC/Cadmus|Cadmus]]. |
| + | |
| + | The idiot who accepted a twenty-dollar job wearing flip-flops. |
| + | |
| + | The man who fell out of an updraft. |
| + | |
| + | The man who discovered his wings could run out of energy by dying. |
| + | |
| + | **THAT CADMUS.** |
| + | |
| + | Apparently, I'm now qualified to investigate a camp full of hostile Balaur. |
| + | |
| + | How exciting. |
| + | |
| + | I'm sure nothing could possibly go wrong. |
| + | |
| + | ... |
| + | |
| + | That was sarcasm. |
| + | |
| + | Just in case anyone was wondering. |
| + | |
| + | At least I have Sparks and Bluey. |
| + | |
| + | And at least we've found some survivors. |
| + | |
| + | I suppose all I can do now is continue investigating. |
| + | |
| + | Carefully. |
| + | |
| + | Very carefully. |
| + | |
| + | Because there may be more people who need help. |
| + | |
| + | And I refuse to abandon them just because this place is dangerous. |
| + | |
| + | ### Final Thoughts |
| + | |
| + | Here I am. |
| + | |
| + | Standing near an enemy camp. |
| + | |
| + | With a recently discovered Kibelisk behind me. |
| + | |
| + | Garlond searching for his companions. |
| + | |
| + | Anders alive. |
| + | |
| + | Sparks and Bluey beside me. |
| + | |
| + | And the uncomfortable suspicion that the village I thought was safe might be part of something terrible. |
| + | |
| + | I still need to get home. |
| + | |
| + | I still don't know why my memories of home seem so unclear. |
| + | |
| + | I still don't understand everything about [[AION]], [[Asahr]], or this whole [[Ascension]] business. |
| + | |
| + | And I am still dramatically underpaid. |
| + | |
| + | But there might be people in that camp who need rescuing. |
| + | |
| + | So I suppose I'm going in. |
| + | |
| + | **Sparks. Bluey.** |
| + | |
| + | Let's go find some answers. |
| + | |
| + | And preferably avoid dying this time. |
| + | |

| + | |
| + | _End of Entry 009._ |
| + | |
| + | _Personal note: If I survive this, I am seriously considering a career change._ |
| + | |
| + | _Additional note: Thirty minutes from Fafnir Fortress. HOW DID I NOT NOTICE?!_ |
| + | |
| + | _Final note: Twenty dollars. Never forget the twenty dollars._ |

| + | _Water Spirit — My Second Companion_ |
| + | |
| + | Bluey is the second spirit I learned to summon, and he's been a surprisingly useful addition to our little group. |
| + | |
| + | I first summoned him while dealing with the Mumu near [[Locations/Ishalgen/Aldelle Village|Aldelle Village]]. Unlike [[Characters/Campanions/Sparks|Sparks]], who seems primarily interested in setting things on fire, Bluey actually helps me recover some of my magical energy when he attacks enemies. |
| + | |
| + | Which is incredibly useful. |
| + | |
| + | I spend magic to fight, he attacks something, and I get some of that magic back. |
| + | |
| + | Honestly, it's a wonderful arrangement. |
| + | |
| + | I'm not entirely sure where he gets the energy from, but I'm certainly not complaining. |
| + | |
| + | ### The Lake Incident |
| + | |
| + | I eventually settled on the name **Bluey** during our little adventure beneath [[Tunapre Lake]]. |
| + | |
| + | We encountered a rather attractive woman made of water, known as the [[Lake Guardian]]. |
| + | |
| + | Unfortunately, she tried to drown me. |
| + | |
| + | Not exactly how I imagined meeting someone new. |
| + | |
| + | Sparks was NOT happy about that encounter. He's made of fire, so I suppose being surrounded by water wasn't particularly enjoyable for him. |
| + | |
| + | Bluey, on the other hand, didn't seem nearly as bothered. |
| + | |
| + | Which makes sense. |
| + | |
| + | He's a water spirit. |
| + | |
| + | It would be rather embarrassing if he were afraid of water. |
| + | |
| + | Sparks is still grumpy about the whole incident. I don't think he's ever going to forgive the Guardian. |
| + | |
| + | Bluey seems to have moved on. |
| + | |
| + | ### Life With Bluey |
| + | |
| + | Having two elemental companions has made this whole adventure a little less lonely. |
| + | |
| + | Sparks is great for keeping warm and helping with cooking, while Bluey has become particularly valuable whenever I need to conserve my magical energy. |
| + | |
| + | I do wonder what the two of them think of each other. |
| + | |
| + | Can elemental spirits even get along? |
| + | |
| + | Do fire and water spirits naturally dislike one another? |
| + | |
| + | Or is that just something people assume because they're opposites? |
| + | |
| + | I suppose I'll find out eventually. |
| + | |
| + | Either way, Bluey has been a good companion, and I'm glad to have him around. |
| + | |
| + | He and Sparks even managed to stay with me during that strange encounter with [[Asahr]] and my [[Ascension]]. |
| + | |
| + | Considering how confusing my life has become, it's reassuring to have something familiar nearby. |
| + | |
| + | Even if that something is a floating magical water creature. |
| + | |
| + | ### Personal Notes |
| + | |
| + | - Bluey is extremely useful for recovering mana during combat. |
| + | |
| + | - He seems considerably more comfortable around water than Sparks. |
| + | |
| + | - I haven't figured out whether elemental spirits need to eat or sleep. |
| + | |
| + | - I should probably learn more about how spirits actually work instead of just making assumptions. |
| + | |
| + | - I wonder whether Bluey could help put Sparks out if he ever accidentally set something important on fire. |
| + | |
| + | |
| + | **Final note:** Don't tell Sparks I said this, but there are situations where water is considerably more useful than fire. |

| + | |
| + | There is one problem, though. |
| + | |
| + | **Water.** |
| + | |
| + | Sparks gets ridiculously grumpy whenever he gets wet. I probably shouldn't laugh, considering he's literally made of fire, but it's pretty funny. |

| + | Despite his occasional temper, he's been a good companion. He's been with me since I escaped [[Locations/Ishalgen/Fafnir Fortress|Fafnir Fortress]], back when I had absolutely no idea what was going on. |

| + | A small clean and almost perfectly nice village with a dark reality. |
| + | Am currently at the time of writing not sure who is trapped and who believes in the whole trap [[Characters/Races/Daeva|Daeva]]'s. |
| + | |
| + | there like 30 minutes from [[Locations/Ishalgen/Fafnir Fortress|Fafnir Fortress]] and is a way to trap [[Characters/Races/Daeva|Daeva]]'s that escape. |
| + | |
| + | One of there big traps was sending people to the [[Items/Veil Jewel|Veil Jewel]]. Several other [[Characters/Races/Daeva|Daeva]] got there bodies taken over. |
| + | |
| + | This vilage is connected to [[Characters/Antagonists/Fafnir|Fafnir]] but I am not sure. I assume they are forced to do this or else they will be killed or a few of them are being mind controlled to keep everyone in line. |

| + | # Entry 010 — Rock, Traitors, and a Prison Map |
| + | |
| + | **Region:** [[Locations/Lands/Ishalgen|Ishalgen]] |
| + | |
| + | **Location:** [[Azrakar Brigade Camp]] |
| + | |
| + | **Companions:** [[Characters/Campanions/Sparks|Sparks]], [[Characters/Campanions/Bluey|Bluey]], [[Characters/Campanions/Rock|Rock]] |
| + | |
| + | **Known allies:** [[Characters/Garlond's Crew/Garlond|Garlond]], [[Characters/Garlond's Crew/Anders|Anders]] |
| + | |
| + | **Current objective:** Infiltrate the [[Azrakar Brigade Prison Compound]] and find the missing survivors. |
| + | |
| + | **Original payment:** $20. Still insultingly low. |
| + | |
| + | --- |
| + | |
| + | ## A Very Reasonable Nap |
| + | |
| + | Before heading into the enemy camp, I took a nap. |
| + | |
| + | After everything that's happened so far, I think I'm entitled to one. |
| + | |
| + | I've escaped a fortress, nearly had my soul stolen, grown wings, nearly drowned, and discovered the hard way that wings run out of energy. |
| + | |
| + | I **died**, for gods' sake. |
| + | |
| + | So yes. A nap. |
| + | |
| + | If anyone objects, they can file a complaint with the person who hired me for twenty dollars. |
| + | |
| + | ## Meet Rock |
I'm not calling him something ridiculous like _Lord Pebblington the Third_. |
| + | |
| + | Rock. |
| + | |
| + | - [[Characters/Campanions/Sparks|Sparks]] — Fire Spirit. Still the original. |
| + | |
| + | - [[Characters/Campanions/Bluey|Bluey]] — Water Spirit. Very useful for getting magic back. |
| + | |
| + | - [[Characters/Campanions/Rock|Rock]] — Earth Spirit. New arrival. Possible track-finding specialist, pending testing. |
| + | |
| + | |
| + | At least my collection of elemental companions is going well. That's something. |
| + | |
| + | ## Anders Seems All Right |
| + | |
| + | ## Orders I Can't Read |
| + | |
| + | ## The Storage Hold |
| + | |
| + | ## A Distraction and an Entrance |
| + | |
| + | Yes, _that_ village. |
| + | |
| + | The one I'm still convinced is hiding something deeply unpleasant. |
| + | |
| + | Apparently, I now have to survive a prison break **and** return to somewhere I don't entirely trust. |
| + | |
| + | One problem at a time, Cadmus. |
| + | |
| + | ## Things Worth Remembering |
| + | |
| + | |Subject|What I Know So Far| |
| + | |---|---| |
| + | |[[Characters/Campanions/Rock|Rock]]|New Earth Spirit. Name chosen. Tracking abilities remain an idea, not a confirmed power.| |
| + | |[[Characters/Garlond's Crew/Anders|Anders]]|Seems decent so far; can interpret Balaur orders and is helping with the rescue.| |
| + | |[[Azrakar Brigade Command]]|Orders pointing toward a prison or holding area.| |
| + | |Balaur key|Obtained from a guard to access the next area.| |
| + | |[[Bjorn]]|Gravely injured survivor; mentioned traitors and provided a prison map. His fate is uncertain.| |
| + | |[[Azrakar Brigade Prison Compound Map]]|Copied for reference.| |
| + | |[[Azrakar Brigade Prison Compound]]|Next destination; Anders will cause a distraction.| |
| + | |[[Locations/Ishalgen/Aldelle Village|Aldelle Village]]|Planned meeting point after the operation, despite my suspicions.| |
| + | |
| + | ## Final Thoughts |
| + | |
| + | --- |
| + | |
| + | _End of Entry 010._ |
| + | |
| + | _Personal note: Rock might be useful for finding tracks. Test this before relying on it._ |
| + | |
| + | _Additional note: Find out who Bjorn meant by "traitors." Don't accuse people without evidence._ |
| + | |
| + | _Important note: Bjorn's fate is not confirmed. The map may help save the others._ |
| + | |
| + | _Final note: I HAVE THREE ELEMENTAL SPIRITS AND I AM STILL ONLY GETTING TWENTY DOLLARS._ |
| + | |
| + | |
| + | |
| + | # Entry 011 — Survivors, Suspicion, and a Sharp Knife |
| + | |
| + | **Region:** [[Locations/Lands/Ishalgen|Ishalgen]] |
| + | |
| + | **Locations:** [[Azrakar Brigade Prison Compound]] → [[Locations/Ishalgen/Aldelle Village|Aldelle Village]] |
| + | |
| + | **Companions:** [[Characters/Campanions/Sparks|Sparks]], [[Characters/Campanions/Bluey|Bluey]], [[Characters/Campanions/Rock|Rocky]] |
| + | |
| + | **People involved:** [[Hergal]], [[Characters/Garlond's Crew/Anders|Anders]], [[Characters/Garlond's Crew/Garlond|Garlond]], [[Characters/Aldell/Pelleir|Pelleir]] |
| + | |
| + | **Current objective:** Rest for the night and leave this increasingly suspicious place. |
| + | |
| + | **Original payment:** $20. Still insufficient. |
| + | |
| + | --- |
| + | |
| + | ## We Found Them |
| + | |
| + | ## Oh, So Hergal Thinks It's Suspicious Too |
| + | |
| + | ## I Can Land Now! |
| + | |
| + | ## Garlond, Please Listen |
| + | |
| + | ## A Gift From Pelleir |
| + | |
| + | You mean to tell me I can make my gear _better_ with magic? |
| + | |
| + | Of course, I should probably find out what an Enhance Stone can _actually_ do before trying to put one on a kitchen knife. |
| + | |
| + | ## Time for Bed |
| + | |
| + | We're staying in [[Locations/Ishalgen/Aldelle Village|Aldelle Village]] tonight. |
| + | |
| + | I'm going to bed. |
| + | |
| + | Notice I didn't say I'm going to _sleep_. |
| + | |
| + | ### Things Worth Remembering |
| + | |
| + | |Subject|Current information| |
| + | |---|---| |
| + | |[[Hergal]]|Rescued with the other crew members; also distrusts the village| |
| + | |[[Characters/Garlond's Crew/Anders|Anders]]|Helped make the prison rescue possible; still seems all right| |
| + | |[[Characters/Garlond's Crew/Garlond|Garlond]]|Reunited with his crew, but skeptical about the village being a trap| |
| + | |[[Wind Stream]]|I can finally use one **and land**| |
| + | |[[Characters/Aldell/Pelleir|Pelleir]]|Gave me an [[Enhance Stone]]; my doubts about her remain| |
| + | |[[Enhance Stone]]|Can improve eligible gear; whether it can improve ordinary tools is unknown| |
| + | |[[Characters/Campanions/Sparks|Sparks]]|Assigned to watch while I rest| |
| + | |[[Characters/Campanions/Rock|Rock]]|Now also called Rocky; assigned to watch with Sparks| |
| + | |[[Characters/Campanions/Bluey|Bluey]]|Still one of my companions| |
| + | |[[Locations/Ishalgen/Aldelle Village|Aldelle Village]]|Where we're spending the night, despite the worrying evidence| |
| + | |
| + | ## Final Thoughts |
| + | |
| + | --- |
| + | |
| + | _End of Entry 011._ |
| + | |
| + | _Personal note: Hergal noticed the village was suspicious too. I am not imagining things._ |
| + | |
| + | _Additional note: Successful landing! Gravity has been defeated. Temporarily._ |
| + | |
| + | _Equipment note: Test what Enhance Stones are actually allowed to improve before getting ambitious with a knife._ |
| + | |
| + | _Security note: Sparks and Rocky have the night watch. Whether I actually sleep is another question._ |
| + | |
| + | _Final note: My name is Cadmus. I am keeping my soul. And I am still owed a great deal more than twenty dollars._ |
| + | # Entry 012 — The Longest Night |
| + | |
| + | **Region:** [[Locations/Lands/Ishalgen|Ishalgen]] → An unfamiliar shore |
| + | |
| + | **Locations:** [[Locations/Ishalgen/Aldelle Village|Aldelle Village]], the airship, a village on the far shore |
| + | |
| + | **People:** [[Characters/Aldell/Pelleir|Pelleir]], [[Hergal]], [[Characters/Garlond's Crew/Garlond|Garlond]], [[Characters/Garlond's Crew/Anders|Anders]], [[Nemon]] |
| + | |
| + | **Companions:** [[Characters/Campanions/Sparks|Sparks]], [[Characters/Campanions/Bluey|Bluey]], [[Characters/Campanions/Rock|Rock]] |
| + | |
| + | **Current condition:** Alive. Alone. |
| + | |
| + | **Current objective:** Find the families of the people who died, if I can. |
| + | |
| + | --- |
| + | |
| + | ## I Was Right |
| + | |
| + | ## Hergal |
| + | |
| + | ## No More Villagers |
| + | |
| + | ## Garlond |
| + | |
| + | We were _so close_. |
| + | |
| + | I argued that the village was suspicious, but I didn't insist hard enough. I let the plan be to rest and leave at daylight. |
| + | |
| + | And now there won't be a morning departure for any of them. |
| + | |
| + | [[Hergal]]. [[Characters/Garlond's Crew/Garlond|Garlond]]. [[Characters/Garlond's Crew/Anders|Anders]]. The others we brought out. |
| + | |
| + | Gone. |
| + | |
| + | I didn't even know most of them for very long. |
| + | |
| + | That doesn't make it any better. |
| + | |
| + | ## The Airship |
| + | |
| + | ## Nemon |
| + | |
| + | ## Their Families |
| + | |
| + | Fuck. |
| + | |
| + | But I _knew_ something was wrong. |
| + | |
| + | ## Things I Need to Remember |
| + | |
| + | |Name or place|What happened| |
| + | |---|---| |
| + | |[[Locations/Ishalgen/Aldelle Village|Aldelle Village]]|The villagers attacked us during the night. I fought them and escaped.| |
| + | |[[Characters/Aldell/Pelleir|Pelleir]]|Killed Hergal. I killed her.| |
| + | |[[Hergal]]|Rescued from captivity, then killed in the village. He had warned that something was wrong.| |
| + | |[[Characters/Garlond's Crew/Garlond|Garlond]]|Died after being reunited with his missing crew.| |
| + | |[[Characters/Garlond's Crew/Anders|Anders]] and the others|Lost during the attack; I was the only one to escape.| |
| + | |Airship|I escaped aboard it, but it was shot down.| |
| + | |[[Nemon]]|The mysterious woman who saved me at Fafnir Fortress. I met her again after swimming ashore.| |
| + | |Families of the crew|I want to find them and tell them what happened.| |
| + | |
| + | ## Final Thoughts |
| + | |
| + | --- |
| + | |
| + | _End of Entry 012._ |
| + | |
| + | _Personal note: Don't confuse being right about danger with having saved anyone from it._ |
| + | |
| + | _Promise: If I can find their families, I will tell them what happened._ |
| + | |
| + | _One last thing: Next time I believe a place isn't safe, I won't wait until morning._ |

| + | # THE JOURNAL OF CADMUS |
| + | |
| + | ### Volume I — Chronicles of an Underpaid Adventurer |
| + | |
| + | **Name:** Cadmus |
| + | **Faction:** Asmodian |
| + | **Class:** Spiritmaster |
| + | **Known Companions:** Sparks (Fire Spirit), Bluey (Water Spirit) |
| + | **Original Employment Payment:** Approximately $20 |
| + | **Current Goal:** Get home. Preferably alive. |
| + | |
| + | --- |
| + | |
| + | - Completely lost. |
| + | |
| + | - No understanding of the situation. |
| + | |
| + | - Saved by a strangely dressed woman. |
| + | |
| + | |
| + | More importantly, I have a fire spirit now. |
| + | |
| + | Pelleir also mentioned something called a **Kibelisk**, a magical object that supposedly allows you to return to a location. |
| + | |
| + | At least there's Sparks. |
| + | |
| + | Well, I've bound myself to a **Kibelisk**. |
| + | |
| + | The statue is purple now. |
| + | |
| + | Apparently, that's normal. |
| + | |
| + | And apparently, I'm a **Daeva**. |
| + | |
| + | Daeva. |
| + | |
| + | Deava? |
| + | |
| + | He also gave me twenty **Return Scrolls**. |
| + | |
| + | Very useful. |
| + | |
| + | I'm starting to appreciate magical transportation. |
| + | |
| + | ### The Mumu Problem |
| + | |
| + | Naturally, Pelleir had another job for me. |
| + | |
| + | I can summon a **Water Spirit** now. |
| + | |
| + | Where exactly does Stellan get all that spare equipment? |
| + | |
| + | --- |
| + | |
| + | ## Entry 006 — Apparently the Lake Is a Soul-Stealing Cult |
| + | |
| + | #### Here is the documants I could copy |
| + | [[Logs/Origin of the Lake/Origin of the Lake Documents|Origin of the Lake Documents]] |
| + | [[Logs/Verdandi's Journal Documents/Verdandi's Journal Documents|Verdandi's Journal Documents]] |
| + | |
| + | |
| + | ### Entry 6 |
| + | |
| + | **Location:** Near Elvida's Hideout. |
| + | |
| + | I've found some documents. |
| + | |
| + | Actual written records! |
| + | |
| + | Finally! |
| + | |
| + | Something that might explain what the hell is happening. |
| + | |
| + | Unfortunately, the information is horrifying. |
| + | |
| + | ### Verdandi's Journal |
| + | |
| + | The first document belonged to someone named **Verdandi**. |
| + | |
| + | Apparently, she used to guide Daeva through something called the **Ascension Trial**. |
| + | |
| + | Apparently, she was meant to greet someone destined to lead people to a place called the **Land of Rest**. |
| + | |
| + | Apparently, the **Balaur** and a Dragon Lord named **Fafnir** were involved. |
| + | |
| + | Fafnir seized Ishalgen and scattered magical jewels throughout the land. |
| + | |
| + | The jewels began speaking to people. |
| + | |
| + | Saying things like: |
| + | |
| + | **"Your soul shall become my crystal."** |
| + | |
| + | Oh, I remember that! |
| + | |
| + | IT TRIED TO DO THAT TO ME! |
| + | |
| + | And: |
| + | |
| + | **"Speak not. Remember not. Only obey."** |
| + | |
| + | Apparently, those who listened lost their personalities and emotions. |
| + | |
| + | They continued breathing, but the writer considered them already dead. |
| + | |
| + | That's horrifying. |
| + | |
| + | Imagine losing everything that makes you yourself. |
| + | |
| + | Your memories. |
| + | |
| + | Your feelings. |
| + | |
| + | Your identity. |
| + | |
| + | No. |
| + | |
| + | Absolutely not. |
| + | |
| + | **MY NAME IS CADMUS.** |
| + | |
| + | C-A-D-M-U-S. |
| + | |
| + | I'm keeping it. |
| + | |
| + | ### The Hidden Sanctuary |
| + | |
| + | Apparently, there's a sacred sanctuary beneath the lake. |
| + | |
| + | A place connected to the original Waters of Ascension. |
| + | |
| + | **Current assessment:** Elvida appears to have a legitimate connection to the original Ascension sanctuary. The jewels are dangerous. The village is suspicious. |
| + | |
| + | _Personal note: Remember my name. Don't trust talking gemstones._ |
| + | |
| + | --- |
| + | |
| + | ## Entry 007 — I Have Wings Now. This Was NOT in the Contract. |
| + | |
| + | **Location:** Tunapre Lake Cave and Ascension Subspace. |
| + | |
| + | Well, I found the cave. |
| + | |
| + | The hidden entrance mentioned in Verdandi's journal. |
| + | |
| + | ### The Lake Guardian |
| + | |
| + | Then I encountered a woman made of water. |
| + | |
| + | Or associated with water. |
| + | |
| + | Something like that. |
| + | |
| + | Honestly? |
| + | |
| + | Kind of hot. |
| + | |
| + | Unfortunately, she tried to drown me. |
| + | |
| + | **OF COURSE SHE DID.** |
| + | |
| + | WHY WOULDN'T SHE? |
| + | |
| + | Apparently, she's the **Lake Guardian**. |
| + | |
| + | Sparks was not particularly happy about the situation. |
| + | |
| + | Understandable. |
| + | |
| + | He's made of fire. |
| + | |
| + | My Water Spirit, however, seemed considerably less bothered. |
| + | |
| + | ### Meeting Asahr |
| + | |
| + | Apparently, Asahr is **AION's ego**. |
| + | |
| + | And apparently, I'm a **Fragment of AION**. |
| + | |
| + | ... |
| + | |
| + | WHAT? |
| + | |
| + | Who is AION? |
| + | |
| + | What do you mean fragment? |
| + | |
| + | Was I always a fragment? |
| + | |
| + | Is there a larger version of me somewhere? |
| + | |
| + | I HAVE QUESTIONS! |
| + | |
| + | ### I HAVE WINGS! |
| + | |
| + | Then something amazing happened. |
| + | |
| + | **I GREW WINGS!** |
| + | |
| + | ACTUAL WINGS! |
| + | |
| + | I CAN FLY! |
| + | |
| + | This is incredible! |
| + | |
| + | Although... |
| + | |
| + | Oh, gods. |
| + | |
| + | My clothes. |
| + | |
| + | I'm going to need holes in all my shirts. |
| + | |
| + | Do you have any idea how expensive custom tailoring can be? |
| + | |
| + | I JUST GOT NEW EQUIPMENT! |
| + | |
| + | Fortunately, it turns out I can retract the wings whenever I want. |
| + | |
| + | Oh, thank goodness. |
| + | |
| + | At least that's one problem solved. |
| + | |
| + | ### More Ascension Requirements |
| + | |
| + | Apparently, this wasn't the end. |
| + | |
| + | Asahr introduced an **Ascension Gauge** with additional requirements. |
| + | |
| + | The list includes quests such as **Verdant Melody** and **The One Who Hears the Voice**, along with reaching 100% gauge progress. |
| + | |
| + | **Location:** Aldelle Village, Anturn Cliff, and the crashed airship. |
| + | |
| + | Well, my aura seems different after Ascension. |
| + | |
| + | Naturally, everyone was concerned about the destroyed Veil Jewel. |
| + | |
| + | I told them I couldn't find Elvida and that monsters had kept me busy before I could stop the jewel from being destroyed. |
| + | |
| + | A perfectly reasonable explanation. |
| + | |
| + | I'm certainly not telling them everything. |
| + | |
| + | Especially after what I discovered. |
| + | |
| + | Meanwhile, **Menos** seems interested in doing some particularly horrible things to Elvida. |
| + | |
| + | Not merely killing her. |
| + | |
| + | Making her suffer. |
| + | |
| + | Charming fellow. |
| + | |
| + | **Personal note: If Menos tries to hurt Elvida, stop him first.** |
| + | |
| + | Pelleir then asked me to investigate a crashed airship. |
| + | |
| + | Finally. |
| + | |
| + | A job that makes sense. |
| + | |
| + | Find survivors. |
| + | |
| + | Help them. |
| + | |
| + | Possibly find a way out. |
| + | |
| + | ### Milred and the Updrafts |
| + | |
| + | On the way, I met **Milred**. |
| + | |
| + | She explained how updrafts work. |
| + | |
| + | ... |
| + | |
| + | OH. |
| + | |
| + | SO THAT'S HOW YOU USE THEM. |
| + | |
| + | THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN EXTREMELY USEFUL INFORMATION BEFORE I FELL OUT OF ONE. |
| + | |
| + | But fine. |
| + | |
| + | Better late than never. |
| + | |
| + | ### The Campsite |
| + | |
| + | I climbed Anturn Cliff and discovered a campsite. |
| + | |
| + | Not a bad one, actually. |
| + | |
| + | Someone had left a fire burning. |
| + | |
| + | There were supplies too. |
| + | |
| + | I considered taking some, but that would be stealing. |
| + | |
| + | And the owner might still be alive. |
| + | |
| + | So I left everything alone. |
| + | |
| + | See? |
| + | |
| + | I can be responsible. |
| + | |
| + | Occasionally. |
| + | |
| + | ### Garlond |
| + | |
| + | The **Balaur** were involved in the disaster. |
| + | |
| + | AGAIN. |
| + | |
| + | **My name is Cadmus.** |
| + | |
| + | That's important. |
| + | |
| + | ### Garlond's Airship Log |
| + | [[Logs/Garlond's Airship logs Documents/Garlond's Airship logs documents|Garlond's Airship logs documents]] |
| + | |
| + | The survivors searched for somewhere safe and heard about a place called the **Immortal Isle**. |
| + | |
| + | They even discovered treasure in an unfamiliar cave. |
| + | |
| + | But their airship was falling apart. |
| + | |
| + | Eventually, the controls failed. |
| + | |
| + | They crashed in Ishalgen. |
| + | |
| + | ### The Wind Stream |

| + | |
| + | ## Entry 009 — Thirty Minutes From the Fortress. THIRTY. |
| + | |
| + | **Location:** Near Azrakar Brigade Camp, Ishalgen. |
| + | |
| + | **Current objective:** Rescue Garlond's missing companions. |
| + | |
| + | **Companions:** Sparks and Bluey. |
| + | |
| + | **Known allies:** Garlond and Anders. |
| + | |
| + | Well, apparently we're going on another rescue mission. |
| + | |
| + | Garlond wants to find his missing companions. |
| + | |
| + | And honestly? |
| + | |
| + | I can't blame him. |
| + | |
| + | He survived an airship crash, ended up stranded in Balaur territory, and has no idea how many of his friends are still alive. |
| + | |
| + | Remember Fafnir Fortress? |
| + | |
| + | The enormous, horrifying place I escaped from? |
| + | |
| + | Well, I've been thinking about how far it is from Aldelle Village. |
| + | |
| + | And I realized something. |
| + | |
| + | **THE VILLAGE IS ABOUT THIRTY MINUTES FROM THE FORTRESS.** |
| + | |
| + | THIRTY. |
| + | |
| + | MINUTES. |
| + | |
| + | THAT'S IT. |
| + | |
| + | ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?! |
| + | |
| + | I escaped from a fortress connected to a Dragon Lord who apparently conquered this region. |
| + | |
| + | ### Another Kibelisk |
| + | |
| + | Me. |
| + | |
| + | Cadmus. |
| + | |
| + | I still don't understand everything about AION, Asahr, or this whole Ascension business. |
| + | |

| + | |
| + | _Personal note: If I survive this, I am seriously considering a career change._ |

| + | |
| + | _Final note: Twenty dollars. Never forget the twenty dollars._ |
